General Dentistry includes the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of dental disease. It also includes the latest advancements in cosmetic dentistry. Dr. Sackser and Dr. Wolfert have the training experience and expertise to serve you and your entire family.
Prevention- Dental cavities and tooth loss can be prevented. Our grandparents may have looked at tooth loss as an inevitable part of getting older, but these problems can be prevented. Regular checkups will often allow us to nip problems in the bud when they are far easier and less expensive to treat.
Regular exams and dental radiographs can identify and allow us to repair small cavities long before root canal therapy of crowns are needed.
Identification and treatment of tooth grinding or bruxism can allow us to prevent cracks and broken teeth before they are worn down. A custom nightguard is much cheaper than fixing a single broken tooth.
Gingivitis or inflammation of the gums can often be treated and prevented before periodontal disease causes tooth loss.
Diagnosis- Proper diagnosis begins before we even look at your teeth. We take a holistic approach to oral medicine and see you as a whole person, not just a set of teeth. Our thorough exam includes:
review of your medical history
oral cancer screening
checking for TMJ or tempro-mandibular joint problems
evaluation for periodontal diseases such as gingivitis or periodontitis
examining the teeth for cavities, fractures, and wear
One of our newest technologies is the use of high definition intra-oral photographs sent wirelessly to a brand new IPad with a stunning retina display. We can use these magnified HD images to detect fractures and decay not easily visible to the naked eye. This allows us to detect and treat problems before they get worse. This exciting advancement in technology also allows us to show rather than tell you what we see.
Treatment-The replacement and restoration of teeth that do become decayed, broken, or lost is a large component of general dentistry. We take the time, and have the attention to detail needed to provide you with the excellent care you and your family deserve.
